Bursary Funding 2011/12

Guidelines

Students eligible for Bursary funding must meet the 90% attendance criteria and this is a condition of funding set by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council. The monitoring of this and the processes used to do this are determined by the College.

Students receiving a Bursary should be aware of the following:

  • Students are expected to attend class (100%);
  • Bursary funding criteria requires a minimum of 90% attendance;
  • A self certificate should be completed for periods of ill health.  Where this absence exceeds 7 working days a medical certificate must be provided;
  • Planned absence can be authorised (where appropriate) by the student completing an authorised absence form ;
  • Students, especially bursary students should try and take responsibility for the management of their own attendance.

Authorised Absence

Occasionally circumstances (other than illness) may require students to be absent from College. In most circumstances an authorised absence form should be completed prior to the expected absence and the form should be authorised by the Course Organiser. There may also be exceptional circumstances where prior authorisation is not possible.

It is important that authorised absence is recorded particularly for bursary students so that attendance does not fall below the funded 90% level.
