Social Science HND

This course, based on a national framework, is designed to provide students with both knowledge and understanding in a range of major Social Science disciplines. In addition students will be assisted to develop analytical skills and practical competence in research methodology, data processing and reporting skills. This is a two year programme offering the potential for direct entry to Year 2 or Year 3 of a degree programme.

Entry Requirements

Normally 2 Higher Grade passes one of which should be in English or a Social Subject.  Alternatively a range of SQA NC modules or NQ units (or equivalent) including Communication or English at Higher level. Entry by informal interview. All candidates will be required to complete a written assessment as part of the interview process.

Course Content

Politics, Sociology, Psychology and History as well as Law, Economics, European Affairs and Research Skills. Graded Unit Exam; Graded Unit Research Project.

Year 1: Politics, Psychology, History, Sociology, Research Methods, Economics and Graded Unit Exam.

Year 2: Psychology, Politics, Sociology, Criminology, Philosophy, Graded Unit Project, Graded Unit Exam.
