Higher Psychology

This Course is suitable if you are unsure of the route you want to take and would like to get some qualifications or if you require an SQA Higher to progress to your chosen Degree or HND.

Assessment Process:

Three internal assessments and a prelim

Each unit has ONE written, closed book assessment.  It is essential that passes are achieved in all internal unit assessments before presentation for the external examination.

Assessments consist of short written answer questions and, in one section, an essay question.

The prelim exam is undertaken in March.  The results of this examination are used to estimate potential grades in the external examination.

Two external assessments

The independent research investigation involves conducting an experiment or research study as part of a small group, before individually writing up a 1500 – 2000 word psychological report that is externally marked.  Tutor support and guidance is given.  This report is submitted at the end of March.

The external examination is sat in the college and assesses the content of the three compulsory units.  This three hour examination is part of the main Higher examination diet in May/June.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, entry by informal interview.
