This course provides a broad understanding of the issues and practices of Health and Social Care. It is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in the caring professions, and provides progression to HN level study. This is a two year programme which includes practical work experience in Year 2.
Level 5: Candidates should normally have relevant standard grades and/or Int 1 qualifications and an interest in the care sector.
Level 6: Candidates should have relevant Int 2 qualifications and/or prior experience in the care sector.
Entry will be by informal interview and written assessment.
All candidates will be considered for levels 5 and 6 and will be allocated a class based on prior qualifications and experience, informal interview and written assessment.
Candidates who have few or no qualifications may wish to consider Pathways Social Science & Care to develop their core skills in preparation for this course.
Candidates will choose a Health or Social Care stream and study specialist units for HN progression.
Level 5 units include: Sociology for Care; Values and Principles in Care; ICT; Communication; Maintaining Safety in a Care Setting; Social Services in Scotland; Psychology for Care; Mental Health Issues; Numeracy; Health Sector: Working in the Health Sector; Working with Communities; Equality and Diversity.
Level 6 units include: Sociology for Care; Values and Principles in Care; Communication; Working in Health and Social Care Settings; Stress and Stress Management; Psychology for Care; Development of Welfare Services; ICT; Numeracy; Caring for People with Dementia; Personal Development: Self Awareness.
