Health & Wellbeing

Stow College is committed to providing support and Guidance on Healthy Living to all staff and students.

The college have held Scotland’s ‘Health at Work Gold Award since February 2001. In order to retain our Gold status, we require to demonstrate ongoing commitment, involvement and activities in:

  • Health & Safety
  • Health & the Environment
  • Healthy Eating
  • Lifestyle Checks
  • Mentally Healthy Workplace
  • Physical Activities
  • Information, Guidance and Raising Awareness on all health matters
  • Community Involvement including supporting Charities

In June 2009, through our commitment to meeting the Healthy Working Lives criteria on mental health, we attained a Commendation Award. (Only the second College in Scotland to receive this award)

 

Healthy Eating:

We are committed to providing a wide range of meals and snacks which include many healthy options. Produce for meals are purchased fresh and from local suppliers. The food is prepared by experienced staff taking into account both healthy ingredients and cultural choices.

 

Physical Activity:

Staff and students are encouraged to get involved in some form of physical activity. The college is a corporate member of the Glasgow Club. Through corporate membership, staff are given discounted membership fees. There are good deals for students also, for younger students with a Young Scot Card and student membership. In addition to having a cycle to work scheme for staff we also have a number of clubs for Jogging, Walking, Table Tennis and 5 aside football open to staff and students. We also have cycle sheds available to staff and students at both campuses.

'Take Life On' Campaign

The college supports the Scottish Governments 'Take Life On' Campaign.  The campaign promotes the benefits of children participating in 60 minutes of exercise each day.

Look out for our Health MOT days. These will include Flexibility testing, Lung Capacity testing, Blood Pressure and Body Mass Index reading.

International Lifelong Learning Partnership

International Lifelong Learning Partnership Through this project international students are offered the opportunity to study towards a UK degree through the college partnership route with Stow.
