Welcome to the first ever Stowaways Blog. We intend on keeping you informed here of current events, future productions, and any other interesting things we think you might like to know about. These blog pages will be edited by Stephen and Dave but taken from information given to us by the students and staff at Stow West.
This month obviously saw the visit from the HMI, but on top of that Stowaways in one week performed 14 degree showcases in Rutherglen Town Hall, Won 3 gold medals in the UK World Skills Competition, raised £45,000 for charity at the Strathclyde Park Teddy Bears Picnic and performed the play Celebration. On top of that 30 of our students joined the activities at the Scottish Parliament protesting against the proposed changes in funding by the SFC in support of Unison. The above involved 87 of Stowaways performers in just one week. Needless to say the staff were scattered all over the country over three days trying to keep up with events, but, an incredibly successful week.
Now we move into the final furlong. Next week sees the production of Top Girls at East Kilbride Arts Centre, followed by two large productions in one week (Baby the musical in Glasgow\'s G12 Gilmorehill Theatre and When You Cure Me in the East Kilbride Arts Centre). All details of current shows can be seen on the college calendar (on this web site). Whilst every one rests over the bank holiday weekend we keep going in preparation for Like a Virgin at the Rutherglen Town Hall and hot in its heels we have the Dance Spectacular, and the plays Shakers and Bouncers at Gilmorehill G12 (in the week of June 7th).
This final few weeks will be an emotional time for staff and students as we perform for the very last time at Glasgows Gilmorehill Theatre. Yes more cutbacks have forced this beautiful theatre to close down. After ten years of performances, we will be very sad to see it go and would like to thank the staff of the theatre for ten years of great service. Good luck to you all.
We hope you like the idea of a Stowaways Blog Page. No doubt we will find out soon. As the months progress this will be constantly updated with relevant news to the College staff and students about the happenings \"Up at the West\" and all the exciting performances we have come for you in 2010 and 2011. Have a great summer.
