HNC Social Care - Dan's Story...
Dan, 42, returned to education in 2006 as an outreach student at Ardoch House in Possilpark and spent a year studying at Intermediate 2 level in English and Psychology at North Glasgow College. He enrolled at Stow College in 2008/09 to study Higher Psychology, and has now completed his HNC Social Care award, gaining an ‘A’ in the Graded Unit.
Dan overcame major barriers to return to education, and his progress over just a few short years has been phenomenal.
Dan says that the HNC course has been a ‘real eye-opener’, and despite passing all of his units and gaining an ‘A’ in his Graded Unit project, he recognises that he still has room for improvement in his study skills and essay writing. Dan’s skills have been boosted by support from the college’s Learning Hub and Learner Champions, who helped Dan improve his writing, proof-reading and ICT skills as well as providing a ‘listening ear’ during his studies.
Dan’s hard work has paid off – his results ensured offers from three universities - Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian and UWS, and after considering his options, Dan has accepted a place at Strathclyde to study Psychology.
