Medical Services for Overseas Students

With so many things competing for your attention as soon as you arrive to begin your studies, it is easy to overlook your health.

However, it is unwise to overlook this until some illness or emergency arises and find then that you are unprepared and do not know how to get the assistance you need.

The UK has a National Health Service (NHS) which provides a ‘free at the point of use’ service to all qualifying persons and a more restricted free service to everyone. Hospital emergency treatment, family planning services and treatment of communicable diseases are free services to everyone.

If you are a full-time student in Scotland (and as a student of Stow College, you are this by definition) then you may also be entitled to a wider range of services. One very good website which sets out quite well all of your entitlements is the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) and the specific reference you need is at the keeping healthly info sheet.
