Banking

Apart from the obvious need to be able to access money to allow you to get on with your life in Glasgow, you will find that a bank account is essential to allow you to do a number of other things

For example you’ll probably need a UK bank account to be able to start a mobile phone contract here. You may find that many Housing Associations and private landlords will not allow you to enter into tenancy agreements without proof of a UK bank account – so no chance to get your own flat! The simple answer? Get a bank account.

There are several big high-street banks in the UK all of whom offer some kind of student account; some offer additional or special international student accounts. It is not for us to endorse or recommend any specific company; almost all have branches within short walking distance of the college, and almost all banks issue students with bank cards which function interchangeably in other banks’ ATMs.

Lloyds TSB

HSBC

Royal Bank of Scotland

Bank of Scotland

Clydesdale Bank

National Westminster (NatWest)

All of these banks offer variations on student accounts and almost all offer various incentives to attract you to bank with them, from USB Memory sticks to railcards.
