Stow Strengthens Overseas Links

Stow College has had links with the Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne in North Eastern France for over 12 years.  Every year, some computing students work at Stow College for 10 weeks from early April to mid-June.  This year, the Computing and Internet Technologies Department has the pleasure of welcoming Aurore Castelain, Thomas Laporte and Yann Saguet.

Aurore is developing applications for smartphones and tablets which use the Android operating system, Thomas is developing tutorials and materials to teach Alice programming and Yann is developing applications for the Apple iPhone and iPad.

The three placement students are staying in student accommodation near Firhill stadium.

As well as working hard, the students also get a chance to improve their English (the Glasgow accent can be a challenge!) and sample Scottish life and culture.  So far, they have visited the Willow Tearoom in Sauchiehall Street (designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh), the Glasgow Science Centre (where they saw ‘Fly me to the Moon 3D’ – their first expereicne of iMax Cinema) and Glengoyne Distillery.

They have sampled haggis, irn bru and the famous Deep Fried Mars Bar!
