
State Broadcasters released their debut album, through the College's record label Electric Honey
Glasgow six piece, STATE BROADCASTERS released their debut album on the award-winning student run label, Electric Honey Records (Belle & Sebastian, Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro) on the 23rd of March 2009.
‘The Ship And The Iceberg’ is released on CD and available to download and feature eleven tracks including their two recent singles ‘Let’s Make T- Shirts’ and ‘Our Favourite Park’.
The band line up of Graeme Black (vocals / acoustic guitar), Pete MacDonald (piano, trombone / vocals), Fergus MacDonald (guitar / ukulele /banjo), Gillian Fleetwood (vocals / clarsach / glock) ,Susan Appelbe (cello) and Cameron Maxwell (bass guitar / trombone) mix a unique lyricism with eclectic instrumentation and the sound perfectly encapsulates the broad influences of each band member. From UK legends The Smiths to US contemporary Sufjan Stevens, ancient traditional folk to modern composers like Yann Tiersen the album captures the essence of these myriad influences to create a truly original sound.
The Electric Honey Label is overseen by Douglas MacIntyre (The Creeping Bent Organisation) and Ken McCluskey (Bluebells / McCluskey Bros) and is a core element of Stow College’s Music Industry Management degree course. Glasgow based, it’s one of the UK’s foremost small record labels, famously releasing Belle and Sebastian’s debut LP ‘Tigermilk in 1996 and also putting out early singles by Snow Patrol, Biffy Clyro and, most recently, the debut album from Wake The President.
