INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS STAFF
Working in partnership

In 2005 the Scottish Executive outlined details of its school/college partnership strategy, Lifelong Partners. The purposes of this strategy were stated as:

to widen pupils’ opportunities for progression and prepare them for further learning;
to ease pupils’ transition from school to further learning, training or employment;
to broaden pupils’ curriculum choices to enrich pupils’ educational experiences.

The strategy outlines the Partnership Agreement which includes a commitment to “enable 14-16 year olds to develop vocational skills and improve their employment prospects by allowing them to undertake courses in further education colleges as part of the school-based curriculum.”

For many years Stow College has enjoyed links with many schools throughout the West of Scotland. Amongst many initiatives this has involved partnership working with several schools using the college’s award-winning ‘Enterprise Thru Music’ programme.

Also Stow was the first college in Scotland to pilot the highly successful Skills for Work: Construction programme in conjunction with schools in Glasgow.

We know that by working together with your school we can provide greater choice and opportunity for your pupils.

Stow College is committed to assisting schools in planning a curriculum incorporating the opportunity for pupils to experience a different learning environment, one which may better suit particular pupils because of their individual needs and inclinations.

We have therefore developed an exciting and stimulating range of courses specifically designed for young people who are still at school. Click here to view.

These courses are offered across all five of the college’s specialist teaching areas.

Please note that in addition to the courses listed the college may also be able to run bespoke courses for groups of students from the same school. For example, during 2008 we are running a class in Higher Psychology for a group of students from Notre Dame High School.

If you would like further information on any of the courses please contact Learner Services (Tel: 0844 249 8585 or Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

Similarly, please contact Learner Services if you would like copies of our Schools Prospectus and/or copies of the Stow College Prospectus. The prospectus lists all the courses available at Stow as well as providing comprehensive background information on the college and the services we provide. A copy of our Schools Prospectus can be downloaded by clicking here.

As well as our range of schools courses, Stow College also offers other services to assist schools in helping young people make informed choices about future career and learning options.

These include college staff visiting schools to talk to pupil groups, parents and individuals about the opportunities available to young people when they leave school.

In addition, the college can organise special visits to the college for groups of school pupils to let them experience what college life is like.

Although these visits are normally arranged for secondary school pupils, the college has recently extended this activity to include primary schools.

For more information on any of these services please contact David Robertson, Schools Liaison Co-ordinator at the College’s City campus (Tel: 0844 249 8585 or Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )
