The Engineering Technology Department offers a wide range of courses, which have been developed both nationally and locally to meet the needs of industry in the West of Scotland and beyond. The technological areas covered by the department include Civil Engineering, Construction, Computer Installation and Maintenance, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical Installation, Computer Aided Draughting and Design, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Networking. The Department also offers a range of commercial courses which have been developed to meet specific client needs, most of which lead to industry-recognised qualifications. These include comprehensive training in Computer Aided Draughting using the latest AutoCAD software, Electrical Installation and Testing, Portable Appliance Testing, IEE Regulations (17th Edition), Electrical Installation Design, Programmable Logic Controllers and Introduction to Practical Networking. To support the provision of Modern Apprenticeships the Department has developed a range of programmes to underpin NVQ/SVQ at all levels across a range of technologies. A number of these have been developed for major industrial clients using the 'Training Partnership' Model. Full-time courses/programmes are offered in all Department disciplines. Part-time courses are offered in a wide range of topics up to HND level. All part-time programmes have been developed to match the vocational qualifications that industry is adopting. Various modes of delivery are available ranging from day, evening, twilight, open learning and distance learning. In particular, the Department offers the following part-time courses: Professional Development Award - Computer Aided Draughting and Design This is a national SQA award which has been developed to meet the need of industry. It is offered on a part time (part day/evening) basis, and on completion allows students to progress to the HNC in Computer Aided Draughting. Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering (Route to I Eng registration) In a unique development, the Department, in conjunction with the Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE), has developed a part time route which will allow Civil Engineers a route towards registration with the Engineering Council as Incorporated Engineers. Diploma for Energy Assessors (City and Guilds). This course is aimed at those wishing to pursue a professional qualification in energy assessment for non-domestic or domestic facilities and is available on a part-time(evening) basis.
