Supervisory Development Level 2

The course is a home learning programme, fully supported by Stow College.  Support is provided by a tutor, responsible for assignments and assessments (as appropriate).  The tutor responds and communicates with the learner in the way the learner chooses, and can be by email, telephone and regular written communication.  Guidance is provided by the tutor, as required.

Course Content

The accredited Certificate in Supervisory Development aims to provide learners with underpinning knowledge and understanding of the broad range of responsibilities involved in taking a supervisory role within the workplace.

The programme is intended for people who have recently entered, or wish to progress to a supervisory position.

The course consists of 8 modules:

• The Role of the Supervisor in the Management of Others – Company structures / Responsibility and authority / the effective supervisor.
• Effective Time Management – Use of time / Techniques for planning time / The benefits of effective time management.
• The Recruitment and Selection of Staff – The process of recruitment / The interview process / The induction process.
• Supervising the Section or Department – Planning / Co-ordination of activities / Controlling activities / Leadership / Motivation of staff.
• Effective Communication – Communication techniques and their issues / The effective communicator.
• Basic Finance for the Supervisor – The need for financial control / The impact of finance on operations / Profit implications.
• Analysing Training Needs for Staff – The staff appraisal / The appraisal process.
• Personal Development – Personal development of staff / Personal development of self.
