The Testing of Portable Appliances (C&G 2377)
This course is suitable for managers responsible for PAT testing as well as for personnel required to undertake and record the actual inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
An electrical background would be helpful but is not essential.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements.
Course Content
The course content includes:
- legal requirements and accident statistics
- effects of current on the human body
- minimising the risk of electric shock and competence to test
- identification & inspection of equipment
- inspection/test procedures to comply with HSG 107
- testing class1/2/3 and business equipment
- frequency of testing and record keeping and interpretation of results.
During the course the candidate will inspect and test electrical equipment and there will be a small practical assessment.
Candidates will be prepared for the City & Guilds examinations.
The course is scheduled over two consecutive days. A tailor made course can be arranged to suit your company needs.

Can lead to:
Two Certificates are available:
1) Level 3 Certificate of Management of Electrical Equipment Maintenance, City & Guilds 2377-11
2) Level 3 Certificate for the Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment, City & Guilds 2377-12
Candidates may choose to take the exam for the certificate most relevant to their needs. Both exams are open book, on-line with multiple choice questions.
