The qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge to:
Understand what is meant by palliative care
Understand a person’s needs in a palliative care context
Understand & support a person with physical care needs
Understand how to provide care during the final hours of life and bereavement.
It is essential that those caring for individuals with life-limiting or life-threatening illness understand the principles of palliative care. This programme provides a definition of what constitutes palliative care and addresses the emotive issues of death and dying. It will also give the learner an awareness of the support available to dying people and their families.
This qualification is also appropriate for those who have already achieved other sector-specific qualifications in the healthcare sector who need to apply their understanding in a palliative care context.
